I took a Browning double with trigger problems to the Gun Room a while back and they sent it out to someone else to work on. He didn't find the problem, so I can't say much good about either their ability to fix a double gun themselves or send it out to a competent gunsmith. Maybe I just got unlucky that day.

I took a look around their shop and it's very small and bare bones. Didn't appear to have the tools and workspace I associate with a "real" gunsmith shop.

I wouldn't ordinarily go out of my way to bash a business, but in this case I think it's fair to warn folks that The Gun Room has a terrible reputation. It's widely regarded as having the highest prices and worst customer service of any sporting goods store in the region.

A few gunsmiths I've heard good things about (but haven't personally used) are:

    Rich's Gun Shop in Donald
    Don Norris in Beaverton (503-626-2363)
    Tom Novotny (503-668-5061)

  4. I have heard the same things as Mike. One that has been recomended to me is Allison & Carey Gun Works Inc. 503) 256-5166. Good luck.
  5. MikeT,
what were the problems that you personally have had with the gun room, or have you just "heard" bad things??? it sounds to me like they took care of you on your double gun. high prices, people have to make money, not everyon can be a sportmans warehouse or G.I. Joes. heres one thing you dont see everyday, people who carry high quality producs and back everything they sell.

    Greenhead,
My own experience with the Gun Room is that I've been treated well by Shawn, but find Warren to go out of his way to be rude and obnoxious. I've bought a gun from Warren but it will be the last mistake like that I ever make. My last trip there I tried to buy some Kent shotshells (overpriced at the Gun Room, but hard to find locally). Warren had the gall to try to charge $2 a box more than they were marked, and seemed insulted that I wouldn't go for it. And they did not take care of me on the double gun; read the post again. It was not repaired because the gunsmith couldn't figure out what was wrong with it.

There's no doubt that The Gun Room carries nice equipment, but the prices and attitude make it a "last resort" place to shop. I can think of six or seven of my hunting and dog training buddies who've had essentially the same experience there.

BTW, I don't have an axe to grind on the topic. If guys want to pay an extra 35% above what a gun is worth, and have to endure being treated with contempt by the shop owner, they're free to do so. But it is fair to give them a bit of warning when a spam posting like yours shows up on the forum.

You think my experience there is unique? Check this out: http://www.ifish.net/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=14;t=000596

  7. Hey Mike,

I think you nailed it. I have never delt with them because I have never heard 1 good thing about them. I guy I know got a bunch of **** from them when he was asking some questions about a gun he was thinking of buying. I just as soon stay out of Portland anyway. JEEP

  8. MikeT,
i wasn't spamming, somebody asked anyone knew of a gunsmith so i gave some advice. sorry to hear they were unable to repair your double gun. just a question but would you give someone the same warning about goin to a G.I. Joes or sportsmans warehouse. most fellas i have talked at these types of stores have no idea of what they are talking about.

Pull your horns in a little. Read your signature under all of your posts. I believe it says "Team Gun Room". Of course that does not mean that you have any affiliations with the Gun Room, but we both know better. I don't believe you intended to spam the Gun Room, you just know them well, are friends with them and know that they work on guns. Be carefull what you say about other Sporting Goods stores. I personaly know some of those guys. Some are Olympic shooters, some of them have worked on guns since.....well before you were alive. Yes there are some that don't know much about certain things, but some know very much. The great thing about it is that if we choose to, we can learn ALL of our lives. If you choose not to, then you will become no better than you are now. I don't think you will let that happen. You are a great guy and have a lot to offer to this board. Good Luck in Stuttgart. I bet you learn something back there.
